The Tavia & Freda Gordon* $100,000 Match Program enables Strelitz International Academy (SIA) to access matching funds while also inspiring a higher level of giving from SIA’s new and existing donors for many years going forward. Up to $100,000 in funds will be available to match, on a dollar per dollar basis, the total amount of “new” (and increased) gifts that a donor gives to SIA during the 2019-2020 campaign year.
Matching Donor’s Name: Tavia & Freda Gordon* Philanthropic Foundation
2019-2020 Campaign Year: Begins July 1, 2019 and ends June 30, 2020
There are 4 categories of gifts that will be eligible for the Tavia & Freda Gordon* Match Program:
SIA Annual Donor Fund
Includes gifts made to the Annual Donor Fund (ADF) and gifts for campaigns or event sponsorships that benefit the ADF, e.g. Annual Fun Run, Tidewater Learning Connection, etc.
SIA Annual Golf Tournament
Includes all levels of golf tournament sponsorships. Player fees are not considered charitable gifts and are not eligible for the Match Program. If a sponsorship includes player fees, the portion of player fees is not eligible for the Match Program unless the donor does not use the player fees. Tickets for short tees, mulligans, and the raffle are not considered charitable gifts and are not eligible for the Match Program.
Education Tax Credits
Includes gifts to SIA made through the Virginia Education Improvement Scholarships Tax Credit program.
Includes grant funding given to SIA by charitable foundations.
There are 3 categories of donors whose gifts will be eligible for the Tavia & Freda Gordon* Match Program:
Includes individuals, families, companies, foundations, and donor advised funds who are making their first gift or grant to the school. The total amount of the new donor’s annual giving to SIA will be matched dollar for dollar by the Match Program.
Includes individuals, families, companies, foundations, and donor advised funds whose FY20 giving exceeds the total amount of their previous year’s gift to SIA. If the Previous Donor’s past pledges have been paid, their increased donation amount will be matched dollar for dollar by the Match Program.
Includes individuals, families, companies, foundations, and donor advised funds who have not made a gift to the school in at least 3 years or 1,095 days. If the Lapsed Donor’s past pledges have been paid, their FY20 giving will be matched according to the rules of a New Donor.
The SIA Development office is responsible for identifying and tracking “new” (and increased) gifts to the school throughout the campaign year. Whereas new donors are easier to identify, a more sophisticated method will be used to track increased giving from previous donors and renewed giving from lapsed donors. The Development office will track all “new” (and increased) gifts to SIA and prepare reports for submission to the Tavia and Freda Gordon* Philanthropic Foundation on a quarterly basis. The Tavia and Freda Gordon* Philanthropic Foundation will distribute the matching funds to SIA at a mutually agreed upon frequency.
